Internet memes- What are they? Initially, I thought about this topic for a long time, but eventually I came to the conclusion that in the media and everyday language, the name refers to information or phrases that have become popular in the internet environment through spreading, usually witty and ironic. So where can you find these? Well, it's simple, on the internet- for example social media (email, forums, blogs, etc). You may ask, when did the term Internet meme come into use? I think it was around the mid 2000s.In addition to words and images, expressions, images, videos, or soundtracks that have been or are being spread on the World Wide Web are also included as Internet memes. So where did this term come from? The term was first used and coined by Professor Dawkins, or more precisely, all of this was described in his book "The Selfish Gene," which was published in 1976. In this book, he described how he extrapolated the concept of genetics to the information environment and called it a "Meme." I also wanted to add a little more information. In the past, the term "Meme" in Russian was sometimes pronounced as "Mim" so as not to violate the pronunciation rule of English "Meme." Although the word "Meme" itself was originally derived from Greek, and you probably guessed that Professor Dawkins simply transferred it into English, and accordingly, the word passed into Russian from English. But in daily life and usage, people have stopped using this word, as according to some surveys by modern linguists, the word "Meme" has become irrelevant and people have simply forgotten about it and stopped using it. Additionally, there is a term that is related to "Meme," which is "Internet phenomenon."
